The State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan jointly with UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency and UNICEF, UN's Children Fund awarded the winners of the Slogan and Logo Contest for the Population and Housing Census, which will take place in December 2022. “Census 2022 - Unity, Happiness, Bright Future!” was selected as the winning slogan. The winning logo includes key national symbols of the country and represents unity.
The State Statistics Committee received dozens of submissions for the Census 2022 Slogan and Logo Contest and selected 14 finalists, which were presented at the Cabinet of Ministers Meeting on 1 October 2021.
At the Cabinet of Ministers, the President of Turkmenistan selected the winner and highlighted that the key goal of the Population and Housing Census 2022 is to obtain accurate data about the demographic composition of the population and socio-economic situation of the country’s citizens. This will ensure that we lay a solid foundation for the further progress and development of Turkmenistan.
UNFPA is the lead agency to provide technical and financial support to the Government of Turkmenistan to ensure that census will be of high quality, upholds international principles and standards and will produce data that is widely disseminated and utilized for development.
The event proceeded with the award ceremony of the winners and finalists of the Census 2022 Slogan and Logo Contest. Dovran Gullyev became the winner with the proposed slogan “Census 2022 – Unity, Happiness, Bright Future!”. Tazegul Tugurova was awarded with the winning prize for the Census 2022 Logo. The other finalists include Gayrat Achilov, Batyr Berdiyev, Batyr Hojayew, and Maksat Amanov.
UNFPA together with the UN agencies, including UNHCR, UNICEF and UNDP, continue supporting the Government in undertaking the Census, which is one of the most complicated peacetime processes. Last year UNFPA supported the Government in ensuring that the census questionnaire is in line with the international standards and, for the first time the questionnaire includes the questions on disability. This year UNFPA’s partnership will extend to technical advisory support, procurement, capacity building throughout the census process. The most important part of the UNFPA partnership will be the support in analyzing the census data and utilizing it for the national development programmes.
