Turkmen students compete in a game on healthy lifestyle

In commemoration of the World No Tobacco Day and early celebration of the International Youth Day, the students from Turkmen higher education institutes and colleges in the capital and regions of Turkmenistan battled in the game “Brain-Ring” to gauge their knowledge on bad habits and its influence on adolescent reproductive health and healthy life style.

 
 
In her opening speech, Ms. Bayramgul Garabayeva, UNFPA Assistant Representative talked about the importance of leading healthy lifestyle for adolescents and young people today in order to have healthy and happy families tomorrow, as the bad habits, STIs and even their diet, have an effect on the reproductive health system.

The edutainment events were organized country-wide by the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, Youth Organization of Turkmenistan named after Magtymguly, jointly with UNFPA, United Nations Population Fund. 

 “Prosperous Future is in the hands of Healthy Youth” was the slogan for the event, where more than fifty questions were entertained to the teams and to the audience.  The questions covered such issues as the historical origin of bad habits, interesting facts and legislation in Turkmenistan and worldwide, as well as prevention of STI/HIV and the influence of bad habits on adolescent reproductive health. 

More than 1,550 young people participated in the events in the capital and three regions of Turkmenistan to support their teams and raised their own awareness on effect of bad habits on their reproductive health.   The students in the audience actively participated in the quiz sessions; moreover, presented their own advices and success stories on leading healthy lifestyle, quitting bad habits and promoting healthy lifestyle among their peers. 

Since 1992, UNFPA in Turkmenistan directs its efforts to ensure that every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person’s potential is fulfilled.
