Turkmenistan successfully prepares

for a Survey on the Health and Status of women in the family

Ashgabat, Turkmenistan  - As part of the preparation of Turkmenistan for the survey on the Health and Status of women in the family, from September 1 to 15, 2019, the State Committee for Statistics of Turkmenistan with the technical support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), conducted a listing covering 16,000 thousand households. As a result of the processing the obtained data, 3,596 households will be selected for the survey. The expected number of survey respondents is approximately 2,900 women.

According to the approved survey questionnaire, the respondents will be women aged 18-59. This survey is conducted for the first time in Turkmenistan in the framework of the fulfillment of Turkmenistan’s international obligations under the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the National Action Plan on Gender Equality of Turkmenistan for 2015-2020. UNFPA, together with the European Union (EU), provides technical and methodological assistance in conducting the survey. An international expert from the EU provided technical assistance in determining the volume of listing and sampling in accordance with international standards, as well as training of the personnel for the listing.

The survey results will be used to further improve public policy in the field of gender equality and the protection of women's rights in accordance with the national development priorities and international obligations of Turkmenistan.

UNFPA provides technical assistance to Turkmenistan in the implementation of the National Action Plan on Gender Equality in Turkmenistan for 2015-2020. Achieving gender equality is an integral part of the state policy of Turkmenistan: national legislation is being consistently improved, programs aimed at actively involving women in the activities of government bodies and management, raising their educational level and professional training are being developed and implemented. The introduction of a gender approach in national development programs promotes the empowerment of women in all spheres of the country's life, as well as the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
