United Nations Population Fund, jointly with the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry (MoH) continue to work on strengthening the national capacity for the emergency obstetric and newborn care
within the framework of the project “Improving access and utilization of quality maternal and newborn health services”. Series of trainings on regional anesthesia were held for the intensive therapy specialists from five velayats at a clinical setting of the National Clinical Center for Mother and Child Health.
Thirty eight intensive therapy specialists from all regions acquired practical skills on epidural and spinal anesthesia at four 3-day trainings conducted by the national specialists Merdan Jumayev, Enejan Annamuradova and Shirin Yazbayeva.
UNFPA recognizes the crucial role of anesthesia in providing emergency obstetric care. The importance of trained anesthesia providers for achieving Millennium Development Goal 5, which aims at improving maternal health, becomes apparent when one recognizes the necessity of surgery in managing obstetric emergencies in cases of obstructed labor, ruptured uterus, eclampsia, and hemorrhage.
