calendar_today 11 July 2014

Women’s Football Championship was held in Turkmenabad from 1 until 8 July. The Championship gathered women football teams from the capital and three velayats and was held on the eve of the World Population Day with the slogan “Investing in young girls”.

The event was organized by the State Sports Committee of Turkmenistan, Football Federation of Turkmenistan, the Grassroots Football organization and supported by UNFPA, United Nations Population Fund.

The competition was fierce between the Lebap, Mary and Ashgabat Women's teams.

In between football matches, UNFPA and Y-PEER held special quiz sessions for the football players on healthy lifestyle, including adolescent reproductive health.

Tears of happiness and Award ceremony.  Ashgabat Women's Football team - 1st place; Lebap Women's Football team - 2nd; Mary Women's Football team - 3rd.

UNFPA believes that adolescent and young girls are central to the future development agenda.  Safeguarding their rights and investing in their future by providing quality education, decent employment, effective livelihood skills, and access to SRH and comprehensive sexuality education that emphasizes gender and power, is essential to their development and that of their families, communities and countries.

UNFPA: Delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person’s potential is fulfilled.
