Best practices on youth engagement in socio-political life of the country were introduced to the national youth specialists during the training course, organized by UNFPA, the United Nations Populations Fund, jointly with the Youth Organization of Turkmenistan named after Magtymguly.
In its new Strategy on Adolescents and Youth, UNFPA calls upon and encourages governments to support and invest in effective youth participation including in decision-making.
UNFPA assists countries in identifying and implementing policies and programs to secure the health, development and human rights of adolescents and youth. Fully engaged, educated and healthy and productive adolescents and youth can contribute effectively to the strengthening of their communities and nations.
Promoting youth engagement is acknowledged as a particular priority for Turkmenistan in the United Nations Development Assistance Framework 2010-2015 document. The Government of Turkmenistan, with support of UNFPA, already took steps in supporting the capacity building of national institutions, including the youth leaders in promoting the issues youth engagement and participation in decision-making. It’s notable that currently the Law on Youth Policy is being revised and young activists are encouraged to participate in the process.
