Good policymaking requires reliable data about people. UNFPA, United Nations Population Fund continues to support the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry in strengthening the SaglykInfo* database system that helps to harness data for national development plans.
Within the framework of UNFPA support to the Ministry, Mr. Kamal Kumar Gaur, UNFPA international consultant and DevInfo Technical Advisor, conducted a 3-day working session to further strengthen the quality of metadata system for health indicators, in other words the description of the health indicators and their source information.
During the first day of his visit, together with the Head of the Medical Statistics Department, the consultant reviewed the metadata of the health indicators and offered suggestions to strengthen the metadata quality in a way that would enable the users at all levels of healthcare system to understand the background and usage of the indicator in their statistical activities.
Following the review meeting, a training program was organized for diverse medical professional backgrounds from the capital and regions. The focus of the 2-day training was on adaptation and usage of DevInfo technology for technical analysis facilitating evidence-based decision-making and planning. The consultant presented the tools and methods for creating extended mapping features to produce high-quality thematic maps, as well as basic features of data search and summarizing information in customized tables among others.
