Mock session helps Turkmenistan delegation prepare for the CEDAW constructive dialogue

calendar_today 28 June 2018

CEDAW Mock session was organized by UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund to prepare the Turkmenistan delegation for the constructive dialogue with the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women on gender equality and women’s rights in Turkmenistan.  The constructive dialogue on implementation of the recommendations of the CEDAW, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, will be held on 10 July 2018.

The Mock session was organized in the form of a real time dry-run to help the delegation to present its report, and successfully engage in the constructive dialogue with the Committee. The Mock session aimed at preparing the delegation to optimise this unique opportunity to revisit the gains and gaps in the implementation of the CEDAW, while analysing the achievements and the future objectives through a multi-sector consultation.

The session also served to stimulate the Government and other national partners to create a constructive dialogue with the CEDAW Committee and contribute to close gender gaps in Turkmenistan, while implementing the CEDAW highest standards, the existing Sustainable Development Goals on gender and the National Action Plan on Gender Equality in Turkmenistan for 2015-2020.

“I feel that the mock session went very well,” said Ms. Christina Zampas, UNFPA Gender Consultant.  “It followed the procedures that CEDAW follows for their interactive dialogue with States Parties and the process by which they pose questions and respond to answers by the State.   It was very interactive and hope it served well to  prepare the delegation for their interactive dialogue with the CEDAW Committee at the UN in Geneva”.
