Preliminary findings of evaluation of the 2016-2020 Country Program in Turkmenistan were validated by the Evaluation Reference Group

Ashgabat, Turkmenistan – United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA has completed the field phase of evaluation of its 4th country program 2016-2020 in Turkmenistan. Preliminary findings were presented to 20 members of the national Evaluation Reference Group on 20 May 2019 in UN building, Ashgabat.
The country program is being evaluated against such criteria as relevance to the national priorities and UNFPA mandate, effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability in country program outputs as:
1. Integrated reproductive health services (Cervical Cancer, Family Planning, and Adolescents RH services)
2. Comprehensive maternal health services and midwifery education
3. Sexual and Reproductive health education and Youth
4. Support for the implementation of the National Action Plan on Gender Equality for 2015-2020.
5. Use of reliable data for the formulation of national development strategies
Evaluation team has conducted interviews and meetings with more than 100 specialists in more than 30 sites of Ashgabat, Mary, and Dashoguz provinces on May 5th -18th.
Preliminary findings of successes and possibilities for improvement were presented to the evaluation reference group who commented and provided their views for validation This allows the evaluation team to proceed with further analysis and formulating conclusions and recommendations in the final country program evaluation (CPE) report which is expected to be finalized in August 2019. The report will serve as the basis for development of the new UNFPA Country program for the period of 2021-2025 in Turkmenistan.
