The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Turkmenistan partnered with the Institute of State, Law and Democracy to deliver a series of two-day seminars across all regions of the country from August 5th to 23rd, 2024. These seminars focused on sharing best practices and discussing a Manual and training modules designed to address domestic violence against women. The goal was to equip professionals in the police, healthcare, and social services sectors with the skills to work effectively with offenders and support survivors.

Participants included representatives from the medical, social, and law enforcement fields, along with members of the National Red Crescent Society from each region and the Working Group on the survey “Health and Status of a Woman in the Family in Turkmenistan”.

This initiative was part of the Work Plan agreed upon between UNFPA and the Institute of State, Law and Democracy for 2024-2025, and also aligns with the Roadmap for implementing recommendations from the National Sample Survey on the survey “Health and Status of a Woman in the Family in Turkmenistan” for 2022-2025.

The seminars aimed to enhance the capacity of national specialists to prevent domestic violence, strengthen interagency coordination in supporting victims, and promote comprehensive approaches to working with men who are prone to domestic violence. Participants gained knowledge and skills in preventive measures, victim assistance, and service coordination and referral to combat and prevent further instances of violence.

UNFPA and the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan remain committed to collaborating on the effective implementation of the National Action Plan for Gender Equality in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025.
