As part of the implementation of the Co-financing Agreement between UNFPA and the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan for the period 2021-2025, medicines for reproductive health protection, medical and diagnostic equipment and tools for providing emergency obstetric care, which is needed on average in 5-15% of all births worldwide, are regularly purchased at the Ministry's expense.
The United Nations Population Fund expresses special gratitude to the Director of the "Baş dermanhana birleşigi", Mr. Meymanov B. and to the Director of the Medical Equipment Production Association, S. Kakamyradov, for effective cooperation.
Simulation equipment is also being purchased for training in emergency obstetric care (EAP) in medical training centers based on clinical practice standards developed with the assistance of UNFPA. Timely high-quality EAP makes it possible to maintain and further reduce the maternal mortality rate, which has significantly decreased in Turkmenistan over the past 10 years and is estimated by UN agencies to be 7 per 100,000 live births.
"Cooperation between the United Nations Population Fund in Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan is reaching a qualitative, new, strategic level of partnership through a Co-financing Agreement" Dr. Kemal Goshliyev, National Program Officer on Reproductive Health, UNFPA
