UNFPA Held Coordination Meeting on Ensuring Timely Supplies of Women's Reproductive Health Commodities

Ashgabat, June 12, 2025 – United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Turkmenistan held a coordination council meeting at the UN building in Ashgabat. The purpose of this meeting was to conduct a quantitative assessment of resources allocated for reproductive health care in reproductive health offices in Ashgabat city and the velayats, as well as to explore possibilities for their mutual redistribution and to develop a procurement plan for replenishing necessary reproductive health commodities for women at risk.

May 16, 2025 – The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Deputy Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Mr. Klaus Beck, was on a mission to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, from May 12-16, 2025. During the mission, Mr. Beck participated in the Central Asia Climate Change Conference (CACCC) 2025 and engaged in meetings with national and development partners to advance UNFPA's agenda on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), gender equality, and youth empowerment.

Ms. Chinwe Ogbonna has officially assumed her role as UNFPA Representative for Kazakhstan, and Country Director for Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan on January 27, 2025.

Ms.Ogbonna brings more than 20 years of global, regional, and national level experience in adaptive leadership, intergovernmental relations and strategic partnerships for scaled results. Through evidence-based strategies guided by implementation science and futures thinking, she provides effective management for responsive organizational actions for present and future generations. She champions the urgency to achieve pace and scale of tailored multi-sectoral investments to ensure Rights and Choices for women, adolescent girls and young people.

From March to June 2024, the UNFPA Office, together with other UN agencies in Turkmenistan, organized a comprehensive analysis of the situation of adolescents and youth in Turkmenistan. This analysis aimed at evaluation of the current Cooperation Framework for Sustainable Development between Turkmenistan and the UN for 2021-2025, and development of the upcoming Cooperation Framework for 2026-2030.

From December 1 to 9, UNFPA and the State Committee on Physical Culture and Sports of Turkmenistan held working meetings with coordinators and volunteers of an initiative to develop volunteerism and involvement of men in promoting healthy lifestyles, physical education, sports, as well as to promote gender equality among young people and, in particular, among young men.
