34 forensic experts, prosecutors, and police officers in Turkmenistan have strengthened their capacities in forensic medical expertise in the areas of sexual and domestic violence  between August 27-30, 2024. This event, supported by the Integrated Security Fund (ISF) – a UK government-wide fund, contributes to better effectiveness of multisectoral team work in recognising and providing expertise in cases of violence against women.

UNFPA international expert, Dr. Naim Zishan (Pakistan), familiarized the participants with the basic principles and procedures for the examination, best international practices in forensic medicine, ethical aspects of working with victims of violence, the latest scientific research in the field of criminalistics, and innovative methods of collection of forensic evidence, analysis and interpretation.

The training provided participants with valuable knowledge and skills that will positively impact their duties and enhance the quality of services they provide. UNFPA continues to provide comprehensive support to Turkmenistan in strengthening national capacity in response to violence against women and human rights protection.
