UNFPA Executive Director visits Turkmenistan

Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin, Executive Director of UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, made an official visit to Turkmenistan from 17-19 August 2015 to discuss perspectives for cooperation between the UNFPA and Turkmenistan.

This is the first visit of a UNFPA head to the Central Asian country since the opening of the UNFPA office in Turkmenistan.

The WHO identifies adolescence as the period in human growth and development from ages 10 to 19. It is a period of sexual development starting from appearance of secondary sexual characters up to onset of sexual maturation; a period of behavior characteristic for adults is formed; a period of transition from full social and economic dependence on adults towards relative independence.

In Malawi, approximately 49 percent of the household population is under age 15. However, when the age structure of Malawi is examined by wealth quintile, the wealthy and the very poor have quite different age structures. Among the households in the wealthiest quintile, only 43 percent of the population is under age 15, reflecting a reduction in fertility in recent years (below 4 children per woman).

UNFPA-supported Y-PEER volunteers joined the advocacy campaign for a healthy lifestyle with interactive sessions and a flashmob at the Ashgabat Park on Sunday 1st May 2016.
 
 
"Let’s Say No to Tobacco Together" was the slogan of the public event, organized by the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry with World Health Organization.
